Slicksurface is happy to announce that we've completed a redesign of netterimages.com for our client Elsevier.
This is the third version of netterimages.com that Slicksurface has designed, built and hosted. It goes without saying that we're tremendously proud of our association with the Netter Collection - the world's most renown collection of medical illustrations.
The new version of netterimages.com features a look and feel in which the images seem richer and more vibrant. There are "Mini Collections" of images on themed topic areas such as the wrist, the neck and the knee.
Another new feature is the ability to browse through books of Netter illustrations. See for example the pages for Netter's Clinical Anatomy. [The cover of Netter's Clinical Anatomy was designed by Dan Wong of Slicksurface.]
Of technical interest, a pricing module was developed using Adobe Flex 2.0. This will allow customers to choose their license type without jumping around to multiple pages with confusing lists of license types. Flex objects run inside Adobe's Flash player, so it gives many of the advantages of an AJAX application only in a stable deployment environment.
From a SEO perspective, in addition to the great new content mentioned above, the site now has social media link buttons (where appropriate), and "link to this..." buttons which we're particularly proud of (try one out and you'll see why). Also useful from an SEO perspective are the collapsing sections where a few items are highlighted and the others are available by clicking "view more..." links. These happen throughout the site and give more content for search engine spiders to index while keeping the user experience from being overwhelming.
The redesign is just the first of several changes slated for the site in the coming months. Stay tuned!
