Find Good .COM Domain Names on Your Bookshelf
The other day I was trying to think up a decent URL for a more personal blog… Politics, religion, and other things I don’t really want associated with slicksurface.com. I was sitting at my desk trying to think up domain names and drawing a lot of blanks. Then I looked at the bookshelf next to me and got a bunch of good, .com URLs that were even available…
TheLastIntellectual.com
The Last Intellectuals: American Culture in the Age of Academe by Russell Jacoby (I majored in sociology)
VeiledSentiments.com
Veiled Sentiments: Honor and Poetry in a Bedouin Society by Lila Abu-Lughod (I minored in Middle Eastern Studies)
DaringToBeBad.com
Daring to be Bad: Radical Feminism in America 1967-1975 by Alice Echols (Gender Studies was one of my concentrations in grad school)
TorturedAmerican.com
The Tortured Americans: An Account of the American Indian’s Long Fight Against Corruption, Exploitation and Oppression by Robert Burnette (a book I picked up in our building’s laundry room - there’s a shelf were people share the used books they don’t want any more)
MasculineMystique.com
All the feminist books on the shelf reminded me of the Betty Friedan’s classic The Feminine Mystique. Feminine obviously didn’t fit, so I just did a variation.
BeatingUpwind.com
The sailing books on my shelf reminded me of the sailing term for trying to sail into the wind.
So, if you’re having problems finding a domain name you like, look at your bookshelf or take a walk through a good used book store and look at the titles.
