AT&T Laptop Connect Has No Support for OS X
I've been debating what to do phone-wise for a while now. Dan has been asking for an iPhone 3G and we went out and got him one this past Saturday. I've been using a Nokia E62 for a while now and can't imagine giving up a keypad. All my attempts at using an iPhone have ended in frustration when I try to type anything, though I hear the iPhone does adapt and the typing gets better...
So when we got Dan his iPhone this past Saturday I picked up a Laptop Connect card. It sounded great - fast networking, and they said it supported OS X. The problem is when I tried to install it, it just didn't work. You have to download a piece of software called GlobeTrotter Connect, but when I double clicked on it, it crashed.
I called tech support and was told that AT&T doesn't provide tech support for the Mac. Mac tech support goes through the company that develops GlobeTrotter and they only have an e-mail address - no telephone number to call. My problem was more complicated than could be fixed in e-mail and I knew it would end badly.
So I'm returning the card and cancelling my Laptop Connect service. I'm just glad I found out they have no Mac tech support when I did. It would have been worse is if it had worked, but stopped working in a few months. Then I would have been bound into a 2 year service agreement with a cellular laptop card that didn't work.
Frankly, I just don't understand why they don't support the Mac. The next carrier I go with I'll ask before I buy whether their tech support handles Mac issues...
