Chances are there will be no way to use 4D Open to connect to a 4D v11 SQL database. Your options are SOAP connections (possible now in 4D 2004), or SQL connections.

4D will be releasing a Flex library that allows direct SQL access to 4D databases. This presents interesting options for 4D developers working on Web 2.0 applications.

Laurent Ribardière’s comment at 4D Summit about avoiding triggers may make sense from a technical standpoint, but not from a business perspective. The take away should be to minimize the use of triggers - don’t avoid them unless it suits your business needs.

4D’s list boxes are powerful user interface tools. v11 SQL introduces a number of enhancements to list boxes to make them even more powerful.

Dave Terry examined some of the inner workings of 4D v11 including the new component architecture. His examples included a component that could create tables in the host database for its own use.
